Kate Nixon new studio celebration
Kate Nixon hosted the official opening celebration for the new KATE NIXON interior design studio in Woolloomooloo.
“The completed space is a tangible reflection of our studio’s spirit of warmth and generosity with inviting layers of natural tones and textures - a celebrated sum of our parts.” Kate Nixon, Founder & Director
The evening was an opportunity to host esteemed clients, suppliers, brand partners and media who have contributed to the company’s continued growth
and success.
Notable attendees included Melissa Doyle, Tanya Buchanan, Lisa Green, Michael Bell, David Boucher, Robert Cadry, Kirstie Clements, David Heinman, Sam Horgan, Elle Lovelock and Shayne Burton.
Guests enjoyed canapes by The Blonde Butler and drinks from Bird in Hand, as they were invited to explore the new studio space.
Designed by KATE NIXON and built by iBUILD, the new workspace located on Crown Street is a testament to the design studio’s multi award-winning aesthetic and exacting attention to detail.
“Our studio feels like home - warm and layered like our projects, full of carefully considered details and materials. We have worked with favourite suppliers and trades to showcase designs, fixtures and finishes we love.” Kate Nixon, Founder & Director

The design was led by the practicalities of the studio’s day-to-day workflow – meeting room, sample room, workstations and kitchen – and the need for each space to multitask.
The intimate Bauwerk limewashed interior of the formal meeting room is furnished with a custom Boucher & Co table, Fanuli seating with Cadry’s rug underfoot, sculptural lighting by Porta Romana and Sarah Nedovic and decorative cornices and ceiling rose by Hinton Linings. Recessed cabinetry
and aged mirror add hubris to the space.
Abundant natural light floods the sample library, with generous Laminex workbenches, Fanuli stools, Montauk lighting and custom cabinetry by
Kreative Kitchens housing favourite flooring, stone, fabrics and finishes that feature throughout the studio’s residential projects. Benchtops in handcrafted limestone, mosaic tile and copper, mix with glass and aged brass pendants from RW Guild and CTO Lighting.
“The sample room is a dream. After so many years of sifting through materials and searching for the natural light, we have an extensive library of carefully considered cupboards and drawers for all our favourite finishes. With an abundance of natural, ambient and task light. It is a creative nirvana.” Kate Nixon, Founder & Director
In the adjacent desk area, Laminex benchtops balance on sculptural plastered plinths with a wall of Briggs walnut veneered desks, grasscloth wallpaper inserts by The Textile Company and stained oak fluted panels by Intrim framed with curved travertine columns by Sydney Granite & Marbleworks.

Eco Outdoor timber flooring in varied lengths and widths of straight board and chevron flow from meeting room to desk area where they threshold through to reclaimed terracotta flooring by Aeria Country Floors in the farmhouse kitchen. As the heart of the studio, the kitchen functions as a cosy breakout space for team meals and relaxed meetings. An upholstered dining nook hosts coffee and catch ups. Custom timber benches and table base by Naturally Timber with vintage chairs from The Vault frame a statement quartzite tabletop, benchtops, splashback and custom stone sink. A WOLF oven and induction cooktop from Winnings are a nod to Kate’s early career in test kitchens and recipe development.
“I smile each time I walk through the door. It feels warm and cosy and light and lovely, filled with the pieces and people I cherish.” Kate Nixon, Founder & Director
Internal curved timber partitions are set with cathedral and Flemish glass while steel framed glazing by Ganci opens onto a street facing terrace transformed into a sculptural tangle of begonia, maidenhair vine, paper plant, fan palm, fountain grass and ferns in 1m tall concrete troughs by Spirit Level.
“Light catches leaves at different angles of the day and the whole glorious creation is visible from every aspect of our interior.” Kate Nixon, Founder & Director
