It’s often said the kitchen is the heart of the home, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s where dreams are discussed, families bond and beloved bodies are nurtured. A quality kitchen needs practicality and durability, with a colour palette that sets the mood for relaxation and enjoyment.

Designer and mum-of-two Kate Nixon, Australian House & Gardens interiors editor, says her ideal kitchen is designed as an inspiring space to live in - a warm mix of natural light, design-driven fixtures, and functionality… “with the durability to withstand two tots running about”.

The Laminex island bench is the focal point of Kate’s kitchen, and the earthy green-brown ‘Possum’ colour brings the outdoors into the kitchen. Says Kate: "I picked up the accent colour of the Laminex ‘Possum’ island bench in the internals of the cabinetry as a sweet design detail.

I chose the Essastone ‘Grigio Novello’ benchtop for it’s lovely textured, veined finish and smoky tones. The moody, natural hues of the cabinetry complement the Skheme splashback tiles."

"A material that doesn't show up every little fingerprint or drip is worth its weight in cleaning gold..."

“I love the practicality of Laminex. It’s all so easy to clean. A material that doesn’t show up every little fingerprint or drip is worth its weight in cleaning gold - and the glass-fronted cabinets show all my pantry staples, stored in beautiful jars.”

With the improved scratch and stain resistance and durability of Laminex, Kate can be sure her dream kitchen will remain beautiful for many years of family fun.
