After living in their apartment for eight years, the time came for this couple to usher it into the 21st century. The home had original 1980s interiors by Ros Palmer, who decorated The Lodge in Canberra, but the kitchen was dated. “We wanted something that was sympathetic with the rest of the apartment, which is quite classical, but also wanted to incorporate a contemporary twist without it looking out of place,” say the keen entertainers, who tasked interior designer Kate Nixon with the revamp.
“The owners’ brief was to update and refresh the galley-style kitchen, opening it up to the adjacent living and dining spaces with modern appliances, smart storage, ambient lighting and a sit-up bench,” says Kate. An integrated Miele dishwasher and Fisher & Paykel fridge now hide the effort behind entertaining, while a V-Zug pyrolytic oven, steam oven and induction cooktop with teppanyaki plate – all from Winnings – cater to crowds with ease. “It’s understated luxury meets the enduring art of cooking,” says Kate.
